Dangote Refinery Cuts Jet Fuel Price To ₦1,650 Per Litre

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre in a move aimed at easing operational costs for airlines in Nigeria.

The refinery disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the reduction comes amid concerns over rising aviation fuel costs threatening airline operations.

The development follows recent warnings by airline operators over soaring fuel prices linked to the ongoing US-Iran conflict, which disrupted global energy markets.

According to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), aviation fuel prices surged from around ₦900 per litre before the crisis to between ₦2,700 and ₦2,900, with some suppliers reportedly selling as high as ₦3,300 per litre.

Dangote Refinery said the new pricing model is part of broader interventions to support the aviation sector, including a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees for marketers and airline operators.

The company also announced a shift from dollar-based pricing to a naira-denominated model aimed at improving affordability and reducing pressure on operators.

Industry stakeholders have repeatedly expressed concerns over the impact of rising Jet A1 costs, warning that escalating expenses could threaten flight operations and lead to higher airfares.

The refinery said the price cut is expected to lower fuel procurement costs for airlines, improve operational stability, and support efforts to moderate ticket prices.
