The Federal Government has commenced the sectional demolition of the historic Carter Bridge in Lagos as part of a planned $500 million reconstruction project.
The 1901 bridge is being rebuilt as a modern 100 per cent cable-stayed structure, marking a major step in the government’s efforts to upgrade critical transport infrastructure.
The development has been welcomed by infrastructure supporters, who described the commencement of work as a positive sign of government responsiveness.
The government has also been urged to extend similar attention to other major roads across the country, particularly Trunk A highways that require urgent repairs and resurfacing.
Improved road and bridge infrastructure is expected to support smoother transportation, strengthen economic activity and improve connectivity across the country.
The Carter Bridge reconstruction therefore represents an important investment in Lagos’ transportation network and broader infrastructure development.
