The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged political parties in the South West to field Muslim candidates if they expect support from Muslim voters.
The group called for Muslim governors in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Osun states, while insisting that Muslims should be considered for deputy governor positions in Ekiti and Ondo.
MURIC argued that Muslims in the region have faced political marginalisation, citing what it described as an imbalance in leadership and appointments since 2023.
According to the organisation, the 2027 general elections present an opportunity for Muslims to push for more inclusive representation through the ballot.
The group maintained that parties that fail to present Muslim candidates risk losing significant voter support in the region.
MURIC also dismissed claims that there are no qualified Muslim candidates, insisting that capable individuals are available across the South West.
