NYSC Member Oluwatosin Abidakun Dies in Ibadan Truck Crash Days After Resuming at Oyo Assembly

A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Oluwatosin Abidakun, has died in a road accident involving an articulated truck in Ibadan, Oyo State, just days after resuming her primary assignment at the Oyo State House of Assembly.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday around Agodi Gardens in Ibadan North Local Government Area. Abidakun was said to have been returning home on a motorcycle with another corps member when the truck collided with them.

Abidakun reportedly died at the scene, while the other corps member sustained injuries and was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment.

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, expressed grief over the incident, describing it as a painful and devastating loss. He noted that Abidakun had only recently begun her national service and had a future filled with hopes and aspirations.

Ogundoyin extended his condolences to her family, friends and fellow corps members, while wishing the injured survivor a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses alleged that the truck had struck several vehicles around the Sango area before continuing towards Agodi Gardens, where the fatal collision occurred. One witness claimed that the driver was attempting to flee after the earlier incidents, prompting affected motorists to pursue him.

The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kehinde Dahunsi, confirmed the crash. He said the female corps member died in the incident, while the injured motorcycle rider was evacuated to UCH for medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the reported earlier collisions and the fatal crash remain a matter of concern.
