15-Year-Old Girl Reportedly Wakes Up in Coffin During Funeral in Guatemala

A 15-year-old girl identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac reportedly stunned her family and mourners in Guatemala after regaining consciousness inside a coffin during her funeral, hours after she was mistakenly believed to have died.

According to reports, Yuleidy collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was driving her to a medical facility. Her father reportedly said he could not detect her pulse or breathing and believed she had died, although a doctor had not officially confirmed her death.

The family subsequently purchased a coffin and organised funeral arrangements approximately eight hours after she collapsed in the village of El Jocote.

During the wake, Yuleidy’s mother, Lesvia Ríos, reportedly noticed movement inside the coffin while mourning her daughter. When the family opened it, they discovered that the teenager was moving before she suddenly sat up and began speaking.

“I kept saying she was alive; she wasn’t dead,” her mother reportedly told local media, recounting the moment she realised her daughter was still alive.

The family helped the shaken teenager out of the coffin and gave her water as their grief reportedly turned to relief.

Recounting the events before she collapsed, Yuleidy said she experienced severe pain in her heart before losing consciousness.

The teenager is reportedly conscious and recovering at home. She also expressed gratitude for surviving the frightening ordeal.

As of the time of the report, Guatemalan health authorities had not publicly commented on the incident. The precise medical circumstances surrounding her collapse and apparent recovery have not been established in the information provided.
