The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Chiamaka Nora Onyewuenyi, following a viral video in which she alleged that her project supervisor demanded ₦150,000 to write her final-year project.
Onyewuenyi, who studies English and Literary Studies, made the claim during an interview with Port Harcourt-based content creator Joker Black. In the video, she reportedly said her project topic was “Citizenship” and alleged that her supervisor had requested ₦150,000 to complete the work.
However, the university challenged her account, stating that no project with the title “Citizenship” existed in the department.
According to the institution, Onyewuenyi subsequently admitted that the allegation was false and had been made solely to create social media content. The university further claimed that she refused to retract the statement.
IAUE’s Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Okiridu, confirmed that the university Senate had approved the student’s expulsion over what the institution described as “damaging content creation.”
The university said the decision was intended to discourage other students from making similar claims for online attention.
The development has drawn attention to the consequences of publishing misleading allegations on social media, particularly when they involve individuals and institutions. The university’s stated position is that the student’s claims were unfounded and that disciplinary action was warranted.
