Police Arrest Former Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha in Abuja Over Alleged Forgery

The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly arrested former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha in Abuja over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

Okorocha was arrested at a hotel in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday night after he allegedly failed to respond to earlier police invitations relating to an ongoing investigation.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest to Channels Television on Tuesday, October 13.

According to the police spokesperson, the former governor was questioned for about an hour before being released on bail. He was subsequently directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.

Police sources said Okorocha had initially been invited for an interview on September 2. The meeting was reportedly rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.

However, he allegedly failed to attend the rescheduled appointment, prompting the police to take further action.

Authorities have not yet provided detailed information about the alleged offences or disclosed the specific circumstances surrounding the forgery and impersonation claims.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the former governor have not been established in court.
