Messi Sets New World Cup Goal Record

Lionel Messi has added another historic milestone to his legendary career after becoming the highest goalscorer in FIFA men’s World Cup history.

The Argentine captain reached the landmark at 38 years and 363 days old, scoring his 17th World Cup goal during Monday’s match against Austria to surpass Miroslav Klose’s long-standing record.

Messi found the net in the 38th minute, marking his fourth goal of the 2026 tournament and further cementing his place in football history.

The match also saw him extend another World Cup record, making his 28th appearance in the competition the most by any player in the men’s tournament.
