Global ride-hailing company Uber has announced plans to end its operations in Nigeria after 12 years in the country.
The company disclosed the decision in a statement on Wednesday, saying it would wind down its Nigerian operations effective September 2, 2026, following a review of its business activities.
Uber launched its services in Lagos in 2014 and subsequently became one of the major ride-hailing platforms used by commuters in the country.
The company expressed appreciation to Nigerians for using its platform to connect with independent transportation providers for daily commutes, visits to family and friends, and other journeys.
Uber acknowledged that its decision to leave the Nigerian market could affect the routines of many customers and apologised for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause.
The company also announced that its Help Centre would remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with outstanding account-related enquiries and other support needs.
The exit marks the end of a 12-year presence for Uber in Nigeria and represents a significant development in the country’s ride-hailing industry.
