Lagos Police Confirm Mushin Market Safe After Explosion

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents and traders that the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin is safe after an explosion suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) triggered panic in the area.

Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani gave the assurance while speaking to journalists at the scene on Monday, explaining that security operatives immediately responded and carried out a full sweep of the market.

According to him, preliminary findings showed that the explosive device had been planted under a vehicle and detonated when the engine was started.

He said the device was located beneath the passenger side of the vehicle and confirmed that one person was injured in the incident. The victim was taken to hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

Tijani added that after a thorough search by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, no other explosive device was found in the area.

He urged traders, residents and business owners to remain calm and continue with their normal activities, assuring the public that the situation had been brought under control.
