The Dangote Group has dismissed as false a viral claim alleging that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earns revenue from every bag of cement sold in Nigeria.
The claim, widely circulated on social media and attributed to Aliko Dangote, suggested that the government collects a significant portion from cement sales. Reacting to the post, the company shared a screenshot on X and clearly labelled it as “Fake,” without providing further details.
The clarification comes amid rising concerns over misinformation online, particularly the growing use of manipulated content and AI-generated media to push misleading political narratives.
Meanwhile, Aliko Dangote has been named in the 2026 TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people. The list, released by TIME Magazine, recognises global figures across politics, business, technology, and culture.
Dangote is the only Nigerian featured on this year’s list and appears in the “Titans” category. Other notable figures include world leaders and influential personalities from across different sectors.
This marks Dangote’s second appearance on the TIME100 list, having first been recognised in 2014 for his impact in business and philanthropy.
TIME highlighted his contributions to Africa’s industrial growth, particularly through investments in cement production, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy, as well as his focus on building globally competitive industries using local resources.
