A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has sentenced a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Sanda, to two years in prison for procuring a 16-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.
The conviction was secured by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Monday. The court, presided over by Justice Aisha M. Ndume, also ordered Sanda to pay ₦500,000 in compensation to the victim.
According to NAPTIP, Sanda was convicted under Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended. The provision covers the procurement of a minor for sexual exploitation by other individuals.
The agency said the ruling forms part of its efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable persons, particularly children, from exploitation.
The development follows another conviction involving a sexual offence against a minor in Niger State.
About a month earlier, a Niger State High Court in Minna sentenced 27-year-old Hussaini Suleiman to seven years’ imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl at his residence.
NAPTIP disclosed that Suleiman pleaded guilty to the offence after the case was referred to its Niger State Command by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on April 16, 2026. He was subsequently arraigned on September 10, 2026.
The two cases highlight ongoing prosecutions involving the sexual exploitation and abuse of children in Nigeria.
