The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to sponsor 300 couples in the third edition of its mass wedding programme.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, the Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, said the beneficiaries were selected from the state’s 21 local government areas after a screening process.
He explained that each groom will receive ₦250,000 as dowry in line with Islamic law, while all couples will undergo compulsory medical screening. Authorities will also verify that each groom has a stable source of income before the wedding.
The ceremony will be held in Birnin Kebbi and attended by Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic clerics and other dignitaries.
Argungu added that the NANAS Foundation, led by the governor’s wife, will provide newlyweds with household essentials, including beds, mattresses and food items, while a monitoring committee will oversee the couples’ welfare after the wedding.
