The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has published a list of 43 tertiary institutions it claims received duplicate tuition payments from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and students but have allegedly failed to refund the affected beneficiaries.
The development comes days after NELFUND disclosed that several institutions were under investigation for allegedly withholding refunds after receiving tuition payments from both students and the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
According to NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, the list was released to promote transparency and ensure that students who paid their fees before NELFUND later settled the same tuition on their behalf receive their refunds without further delay.
The institutions named include Adamawa State University, University of Uyo, University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Ilorin, Imo State University, Nasarawa State University, Rivers State University, University of Calabar, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ekiti State University, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Kaduna State Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi and several other universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria.
NANS called on the affected institutions to immediately refund eligible students, while urging NELFUND and relevant authorities to continue investigations and ensure full accountability in the implementation of the student loan programme.
