Arabambi Demands ₦50 Billion, Public Apology from Peter Obi Over Alleged Defamatory Remark

The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has demanded a public apology, retraction, and ₦50 billion in damages from Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over an alleged defamatory statement made during a podcast interview.

In a letter issued by his legal representatives, Arabambi accused Obi of falsely stating that he “does not have an address,” describing the remark as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation. According to his lawyers, the statement portrayed him as a faceless individual without credibility or legitimacy in public life.

The legal team argued that the interview was widely broadcast on television and shared across several digital platforms, exposing Arabambi to public ridicule and harming his political image. They maintained that he has a known residential and business address and has long maintained professional and political affiliations within Nigeria.

As part of their demands, Arabambi’s lawyers asked Obi to issue an unreserved public apology on national television, publish the apology on his verified social media platforms, and place full-page apology notices in national newspapers. They also demanded the payment of ₦50 billion as compensation for the alleged injury to their client’s reputation, dignity, and political standing.

The legal team warned that further legal action could follow if the demands are not met.
