Osun State Moves to Strengthen Security with New Drone Acquisition Plan

The Osun State Government has announced plans to enhance its security infrastructure through the acquisition of new surveillance drones and additional security equipment.

The move follows a series of high-level security meetings convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke over the past several days to assess the state’s security needs and explore strategies for improving public safety.

According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the administration has directed relevant security agencies and stakeholders to begin the process of procuring modern surveillance technology and other operational tools aimed at supporting crime prevention efforts across the state.

The decision comes amid concerns over the reported disappearance of five security drones previously deployed within the state’s security network. While acknowledging the situation, the government emphasized that its primary focus is not on past incidents but on strengthening future security operations.

Governor Adeleke stated that the objective is to equip both formal and community-based security structures with the resources needed to respond effectively to criminal activities and emerging security threats.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting residents and maintaining a safe environment for communities across Osun State. He also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their neighborhoods.

The planned investment in surveillance technology forms part of broader efforts to improve intelligence gathering, strengthen security coordination, and enhance the state’s ability to respond to security challenges.

Although the government has not yet disclosed the number of drones to be acquired or the estimated cost of the project, officials indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding the scope and implementation of the procurement process.

The development comes at a time when concerns about security have increased in parts of the country, with several states reviewing their security strategies in response to rising incidents of kidnapping and other criminal activities.

As the state moves forward with the initiative, residents will be watching closely to see how the new security measures contribute to improving safety and strengthening law enforcement efforts across Osun State.
