Shettima Cancels US Trip, Citing Aircraft Problems

Vice President Kashim Shettima’s intended journey to the US to attend the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas, has been cancelled. Instead, he took a detour and returned to Nigeria.

In a statement released on Monday, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Summit in Dallas, Texas, will now be represented by Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was initially supposed to represent the President, was unable to make the journey “due to a technical malfunction with his aircraft, forcing him to make a diversion on the advice of the Presidential Air Fleet,” according to the presidential assistant.

The Vice President will continue to perform other tasks for the country, he said.

The high-profile conference, which will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Centre, will bring together corporate and political leaders from the US, Africa, and other regions, according to a portion of the announcement. It includes plenaries, networking opportunities, and high-level discussions.

Presidents Joseph Boakai of Liberia, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, Joao Lourenço of Angola, Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana, José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho are among the African heads of state anticipated.

The US-Africa Business Summit seeks to promote business opportunities and economic cooperation between the US and African nations.
