Chris Brown Receives Eight-Month Suspended Sentence Over 2023 London Nightclub Attack

American singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, over an assault on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.

The 37-year-old Grammy-winning artist was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, October 26, 2026, after pleading guilty to affray in July. The suspended sentence means he will not serve the prison term immediately, provided he complies with the conditions imposed by the court.

The incident took place at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. During the proceedings, prosecutors said Brown struck Diaw on the head twice with a heavy tequila bottle. CCTV footage reportedly showed the singer hitting the producer several times, while Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, was also said to have taken part in the confrontation.

Diaw sustained injuries to his head and knee and received medical treatment at St Mary’s Hospital.

Brown had initially faced more serious charges, including assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon. Those charges were dropped after he entered a guilty plea to affray.

The singer was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 after returning to the United Kingdom for a concert. He was later granted bail after providing £5 million in security, allowing him to continue with his tour.

Although Brown has avoided immediate imprisonment, the suspended sentence leaves him subject to the court’s conditions throughout the 12-month period. Failure to comply with the relevant requirements could have further legal consequences.
