Police Seek Identity of Woman Found Dead in Calabar Hotel

The Cross River State Police Command has released a photograph of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel in Calabar South and appealed to the public for information that could help establish her identity and locate a man who reportedly lodged with her.

The woman was found unresponsive in Room 2 of a hotel along Clifford Lane earlier this month. Police said she had checked into the hotel with an unidentified male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the man was not properly documented when he checked into the hotel. Officers are now working to identify him and establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The incident was reported on September 8 after a receptionist discovered that the door to the room was open and found the woman inside. Investigators who visited the scene observed what they described as apparent marks of violence on her face and neck.

She was taken to the General Hospital in Calabar, where she was confirmed dead. Her remains were subsequently deposited at a mortuary.

The receptionist who was on duty at the time remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with information about the guests and their stay. Police, however, stressed that his detention does not mean he has been found guilty of any offence and that any further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed investigators to conduct the case professionally and objectively, with the aim of identifying the deceased, determining the circumstances of her death and locating the male guest.

The Police Command appealed to anyone who recognises the woman or has information that could help identify her, contact her relatives or locate the man who stayed with her to contact the Police Control Room or report to the nearest police station.
