The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has identified four police officers detained for allegedly extorting N52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The officers, identified as ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel, were accused of leaving their assigned duty posts to carry out an unauthorised traffic operation at Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, Abuja.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers stopped a motorist for an alleged traffic offence and collected N52,000 before later discovering that the victim was the ICPC chairman.
Following a complaint, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered the immediate arrest of the officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial for abandoning their official duties, conducting unauthorised traffic enforcement and engaging in alleged extortion.
The FCT Police Command said disciplinary proceedings have commenced in line with police regulations, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct among its personnel.
