General Killed in Borno Attack as Vehicle Failure Allegedly Prevented Escape

Fresh details have emerged on the death of Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh, who was killed during a deadly terrorist attack on a military base in Borno State.

Military sources revealed that the late commander attempted to escape as insurgents advanced on the base but was unable to do so after the armoured vehicle he tried to use reportedly failed to start.

According to the sources, the attack occurred in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, where heavily armed fighters launched a coordinated assault, killing several soldiers and leaving others injured or missing.

The incident has also raised concerns within military circles, with allegations of poor equipment maintenance and logistical failures, including issues related to vehicle servicing and fuel availability.

Sources claimed that such challenges may have contributed to the inability of personnel to respond effectively during emergencies.

The attack is believed to have been carried out by insurgents linked to Boko Haram’s ISWAP faction, which has intensified operations in Nigeria’s North-East despite ongoing military efforts to curb the insurgency.
