Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Osagie Destiny Etinosa for allegedly posing as a football agent and defrauding a victim of ₦11 million.
The suspect was apprehended by officials of the commission’s Benin Zonal Directorate following a petition alleging fraud.
According to reports, Etinosa used Instagram to present himself as a well-connected agent, promising to secure football trials for aspiring players in Romania and Bulgaria.
A victim, Samuel Beke Ohazuruike, reportedly paid the sum believing the offer was genuine, but the promised opportunities never materialized.
After unsuccessful attempts to recover the money, the victim filed a complaint, leading to an EFCC investigation and eventual arrest of the suspect.
The commission said Etinosa will be charged to court, warning that such scams targeting young athletes seeking opportunities abroad are on the rise.
