Resident Doctors Suspend Strike After Deal with Federal Government

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its planned nationwide strike after reaching an understanding with the Federal Government over key welfare concerns.

The decision was announced on April 7 following an emergency meeting of the association’s National Executive Council, where members reviewed assurances provided by government representatives.

NARD said the move was based on commitments by the government to address outstanding salaries, hazard allowances, and other welfare-related issues affecting resident doctors.

The association noted that progress made during negotiations encouraged it to allow more time for dialogue, particularly on salary arrears and the Medical Residency Training Fund.

However, the doctors stressed that the issues have not been fully resolved and that the suspension is conditional on continued government action.

They added that the situation will be closely monitored as discussions with the Federal Government continue.
