Cybersecurity Push & Data Breach Probe Rock Nigeria’s Digital Space

The Federal Government has proposed a Cybersecurity Coordination Council to strengthen national defence against rising cyber threats. Communications Minister Bosun Tijani said the initiative will unite government, private sector, and civil society to improve threat detection and response.

He emphasised that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, requiring collaboration to protect Nigeria’s digital economy, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has launched an investigation into a suspected data breach involving Remita Payment Services Limited, Sterling Bank, and other organisations.

Authorities are assessing the scale of the breach, risks to individuals, and whether proper safeguards were in place, while also reviewing compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
