DHQ Urges Patience as US Support Boosts Security Efforts

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has appealed to Nigerians to remain patient amid ongoing security challenges, despite the presence of American military personnel in the country.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, said Nigeria’s collaboration with the United States military would soon begin to yield visible results, especially in intelligence sharing and specialised training.

He explained that military operations require time before outcomes become evident, noting that the foreign personnel are serving strictly in advisory roles and are not involved in combat.

“You may not see the impact immediately, but in the coming weeks and months, the difference will be clear,” he said.

The DHQ had earlier confirmed the deployment of about 100 US military personnel and equipment to Bauchi Airfield in February 2026 to support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Meanwhile, the military has placed troops on high alert nationwide ahead of the Easter celebrations to prevent potential attacks.

Onoja warned that security agencies remain vigilant, as criminal groups often exploit festive periods, assuring that adequate measures are in place to maintain safety across the country.
