Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, is set to be formally arraigned in court after spending over a month in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The arraignment follows multiple charges filed against him at both the Federal High Court and a Kaduna State High Court, covering allegations such as money laundering, abuse of office, fraud, and possession of public property.
El-Rufai was arrested on February 18 shortly after being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The ICPC initially secured a two-week remand order, which was later extended as investigations continued.
According to the commission, he will be arraigned alongside other defendants, including Joel Adoga at the Federal High Court, while a separate case involving Amadu Sule will be heard at the state level.
The ICPC stated that the charges were filed on March 18 and that the former governor has been duly served. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to due process and the rule of law.
In the course of the investigation, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted the ICPC permission to access and analyse electronic devices recovered from el-Rufai’s residence. These include mobile phones, laptops, storage devices, and other digital materials, which are being examined for evidence such as messages, call logs, and documents.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) has also filed a separate case against the former governor over alleged wiretapping involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
El-Rufai has consistently denied all allegations, maintaining that the charges against him are politically motivated.
