Saudi Arabia has expelled five Iranian diplomats, giving them 24 hours to leave the country amid escalating tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the affected officials include Iran’s military attaché, assistant military attaché, and three other embassy staff.
The Saudi government explained that the decision was in response to repeated attacks on its territory, particularly targeting civilian locations and key energy infrastructure. It described the actions as violations of international conventions and respect for national sovereignty.
Saudi authorities also warned that the situation could further strain diplomatic relations between both countries, noting that such actions contradict the principles of Islamic brotherhood.
The ministry referenced existing agreements and international obligations, stating that the attacks undermine commitments made under diplomatic frameworks and global resolutions.
The move follows a recent incident in Riyadh, where the United States Embassy was struck by drones reportedly linked to Iran. The attack caused minor structural damage and a fire within the diplomatic compound.
As tensions continue to rise across the region, the diplomatic fallout between Saudi Arabia and Iran signals a further escalation in an already volatile geopolitical environment.
