Tinubu Suspends FAAN’s Cashless Toll Policy at Airports

President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension of the cashless toll payment system recently introduced by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at major airports nationwide.

The policy, which took effect on March 1, 2026, barred cash payments at airport toll gates and required motorists to use prepaid access cards or electronic payment channels. However, its rollout led to widespread confusion, heavy traffic congestion, and passengers missing flights due to long delays.

Following complaints from travellers and motorists, the issue was discussed at the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo said the President ordered the suspension after expressing concern over the hardship caused to Nigerians. He directed the ministry to review and restructure the policy.

Motorists who have already purchased prepaid cards can continue to use them, alongside cash payments, pending further review and a new implementation strategy.
