Police Detain TikToker Mirabel Over Alleged False Rape Claim

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Mirabel as authorities investigate allegations that she raised a false rape alarm.

Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed that the social media personality is currently in custody while investigators examine the circumstances surrounding the report. He noted that the outcome of the investigation will determine whether any charges will be filed.

The case, which has sparked widespread debate online, first gained attention after Mirabel shared emotional videos on TikTok alleging that an unidentified man forced entry into her apartment, restrained her, and threatened that his family’s influence would shield him from justice.

The claims quickly went viral, prompting public outrage and calls for swift action from law enforcement, as well as renewed conversations about how authorities handle sexual assault allegations.

Police initially clarified that she was not arrested at the early stage of the case but was treated as a complainant after reporting the alleged incident. Officers were directed to make immediate contact with her, after which she gave preliminary statements and underwent a medical examination. The matter was later transferred to another division for further investigation.

Authorities also said she received medical attention due to her distressed condition while inquiries began.

During earlier briefings, the command emphasised that it remained neutral and committed to establishing the facts through due process. Officials reiterated that anyone found responsible for sexual assault would face prosecution, but also warned that knowingly providing false information to law enforcement is an offence under Nigerian law.

The development was confirmed to journalists, including SaharaReporters, as investigations continue. Police say further action will depend on the findings at the conclusion of the probe.
