FAAN Partners MTN Nigeria to Launch Free WiFi at Lagos and Abuja Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has partnered with MTN Nigeria to provide free WiFi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2 in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The service was officially launched on Thursday at the Lagos terminal as part of efforts to improve passenger experience and strengthen digital infrastructure across Nigeria’s aviation sector.

FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, represented by Director of Airport Operations Abdullahi Mahmood, said the initiative is designed to modernise airport facilities and align them with global standards in connectivity and technology.

According to FAAN, the free WiFi service will be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports nationwide within the next three months.

Officials described the project as a public-private partnership structured to combine FAAN’s infrastructure oversight with MTN’s telecommunications expertise.

Speaking at the launch, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Officer Karl Toriola, assured users that the network would remain reliable and secure for travellers.

While FAAN highlighted the rollout as a key step toward improving passenger satisfaction and operational efficiency, details regarding the funding model and long-term maintenance plan were not disclosed at the event.

Airport users have for years complained about limited or unreliable internet connectivity at major Nigerian terminals, particularly during peak travel periods. FAAN has not yet clarified whether the free access will be time-limited per user or subject to bandwidth controls.
