Troops Neutralise ISWAP Fighters, Rescue Kidnap Victims in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have neutralised 16 ISWAP terrorists and rescued 11 kidnapped victims during a series of coordinated counter-offensives in Borno State.

According to a statement issued by the operation’s Media Information Officer, Sani Uba, the action followed an attempted midnight attack by insurgents on the Forward Operating Base in Auno on February 5. The assault was repelled by troops of Sector 1, prompting a follow-up operation to track down the fleeing fighters.

Working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), soldiers advanced along the Komala axis in Konduga Local Government Area on February 9, pursuing the insurgents toward the Gidan Kaji area, where several were intercepted and others dispersed.

Security forces recovered more than 20 bicycles, weapons, and logistics supplies believed to support terrorist activities. Troops also arrested suspected logistics couriers transporting large quantities of drugs allegedly meant for insurgents near the Bukarti axis.

In a separate incident, soldiers foiled a kidnap attempt along the Buratai–Kamuya road after responding to suspicious movements in the area. Two victims were rescued and reunited with their families, while another rescue mission along the Chibok–Damboa axis led to the safe recovery of nine additional abductees.

Military authorities said the operations reflect ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist networks, cut supply routes, and enhance civilian protection across the North-East region.
