Kings Park FC Mourns the Loss of Player Saburi “Ola” Adeniji

Kings Park Football Club has announced the passing of its player, Saburi Adeniji, fondly known as “Ola,” who died on Friday morning after battling complications from a severe brain stem injury. The club described his death as a heartbreaking blow to both the Kings Park family and the wider football community.

Adeniji, who wore the number 17 jersey, was remembered as a dedicated footballer and a highly respected teammate. He had been receiving intensive medical care at Queen’s Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on January 15, 2026, under the supervision of the Critical Care Department.

Medical updates from the hospital indicated that his condition steadily worsened. Doctors later confirmed that he was clinically brain dead and approaching the end of life. Hospital officials reportedly explained that a recent change in legislation earlier in the year required additional tests and formal procedures before life support could be withdrawn, leading to a brief delay.

Once the required assessments were completed, the hospital granted time for Adeniji’s family to travel to the United Kingdom. At the time, his wife and their four-year-old daughter were in Nigeria. An official request was said to have been issued, appealing for compassionate consideration to allow his wife to travel urgently so she could be with her husband in his final moments. Sadly, despite these efforts, his wife and daughter reportedly arrived a day after his death.

During his hospitalization, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover urgent visa applications, flights, accommodation, and other living expenses. Supporters were informed that the funds were critically needed due to the limited time available.

In an emotional tribute, Kings Park FC said Adeniji was far more than a player. “He will always be a King,” the club stated, honoring his roles as a teammate, friend, husband, father, brother, and son. The club also acknowledged the difficult days ahead, including funeral arrangements and other closure-related activities.

As a mark of respect, Kings Park FC announced the postponement of its scheduled match against The Castlemen. The club confirmed it plans to return to competitive action on February 21.

Tributes have continued to flow from teammates, fans, and members of the football community, many praising Adeniji’s character, resilience, and commitment to the sport. The club emphasized that it remains united during this painful period and is focused on supporting his family and loved ones.

Kings Park FC extended its heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by Adeniji’s passing, noting that his memory will continue to live on within the club.
