Dangote Refinery Adjusts Petrol Price After Festive Support Ends

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a new increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, following the end of its holiday price relief initiative. At MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations nationwide, petrol is now selling at ₦839 per litre.

According to the refinery, the price review comes after the conclusion of a temporary intervention introduced during the festive season to ease financial pressure on Nigerians at a time of increased household expenses. During that period, the refinery deliberately absorbed substantial costs, lowering prices to help sustain affordability and stabilize the market.

With the intervention now over, the refinery has adjusted the PMS gantry price to ₦799 per litre, up from ₦699. The company explained that this adjustment is essential to maintain long-term operational viability while still supporting price stability in the downstream petroleum sector.

Dangote Refinery also expressed concern that many fuel stations did not pass on the earlier price reduction to consumers, preventing Nigerians from fully enjoying the benefits of the festive pricing support.

Speaking on the development, the Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, disclosed that the facility currently supplies around 50 million litres of PMS daily to the domestic market. He noted that fuel evacuation and distribution across the country remain efficient and uninterrupted.

Bird further emphasized that the refinery is designed with the flexibility to process various crude oil grades and intermediate feedstocks, allowing for continuous PMS production even during scheduled maintenance periods.

Reaffirming its role as a local producer, Dangote Refinery stated that it remains committed to reducing Nigeria’s exposure to import-related price shocks and external supply challenges, positioning itself as a key stabilizer in the nation’s downstream petroleum industry.
