Motorists using the Lagos-Badagry Expressway are advised to plan their movements ahead as traffic congestion is expected to increase following the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Mazamaza Bridge, according to Eyes Of Lagos.
The Lagos State Government announced that the repair project will last 18 weeks, from Monday, January 19 to Thursday, May 28, 2026. The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the rehabilitation will involve the replacement of expansion joints and other bridge components.
The works will affect service and toll lanes on both the inbound and outbound sections of the Lagos-Badagry carriageway. However, the bridge will not be fully closed at any time during the rehabilitation.
Parts of the bridge will be partially closed at different stages, while traffic will be managed through diversions using toll lanes, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, and service lanes, depending on the phase of work.
The project will be carried out in phases, starting with preliminary works in late January, followed by repairs on the Badagry-bound lanes and later the Lagos-bound lanes. Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on ground to manage traffic during the period.
Motorists are advised to follow traffic signs and the instructions of traffic officials throughout the duration of the repairs.
