Lagos Taskforce Intensifies Crackdown on Omotaku, Arrests 281 Suspects

In continuation of its cleanup enforcement operations and unwavering commitment to rid Lagos State of criminal elements and street urchins popularly known as Omotaku, the Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its crackdown across the metropolis. These individuals are notorious for harassing motorists and extorting money from them, particularly when vehicles develop mechanical faults on the road.

The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, stated that the Taskforce has taken the bull by the horns by decisively suppressing the activities of Omotaku throughout Lagos.

According to Akerele, within the last week, from Thursday through the weekend up to press time on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the Agency arrested several Omotaku during sustained enforcement operations.

The operations covered key locations across both the Island and the Mainland, including Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lekki Phase 1, Lekki Ajah Expressway, Animashahun Bus Stop, Akowonjo Road, Egbeda, Fadeyi Bus Stop, Costain, Funsho Williams Avenue, Victoria Island, Apongbon, Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos Island, Palmgrove, Ojuelegba Road, Surulere, and other adjoining areas where the presence of undesirable elements was observed.

In total, 281 suspects were arrested during the operation, and all have since been arraigned in court. The Chairman expressed confidence that the activities of Omotaku would soon become a thing of the past.

Akerele urged Lagos residents, especially motorists, to promptly alert the Lagos State Taskforce whenever Omotaku or other street urchins constitute a nuisance in their areas. He advised the public to contact the Taskforce via 09137555111 or 09138555111 for swift response.

He also warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, stressing that crime is not a career and will not be tolerated in Lagos State.
