A.A. Rano Nigeria Limited, founded by oil magnate Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, has launched Nigeria’s first fully automated and unmanned fuel stations, offering 24/7 operations, digital payment options, and SmartPump technology.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian technology company that develops management and automation systems for the oil and gas industry. Under the agreement, Petrosoft will deploy its automated fuel station technology across A.A. Rano’s more than 200 retail outlets nationwide.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, A.A. Rano disclosed that the first set of automated stations is expected to begin operations within January 2026. The stations will allow customers to refuel, make contactless payments, and complete transactions without the presence of fuel attendants.
According to the company, the automated system is designed to minimise losses, enhance transparency, and assure customers that they receive the exact volume of fuel paid for at every transaction.
Commenting on the development, Petrosoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Joshua Denila, said the project demonstrates the potential of locally developed technology to address long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s fuel retail sector.
“Our systems are developed locally and built to international standards. They are designed to improve efficiency from single stations to large fueling depots,” Denila said.
