Tragedy on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway: Tyre Burst Kills Two in Crash Involving Anthony Joshua

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that a tyre burst was responsible for the road accident involving British Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, claimed the lives of two members of Joshua’s team and left the boxing star with minor injuries.

Speaking at the Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, explained that the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his entourage suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into a stationary truck.

The deceased were identified as Joshua’s strength coach, Sina Ghami, and his personal trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua, who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash, sustained minor injuries and has since received medical attention in Lagos. He is reported to be in stable condition.

Police authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to fully determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident, which occurred on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions, with fans and well-wishers expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for Joshua’s recovery.
