The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has placed a ban on Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles following the discovery of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which pose serious health risks to consumers with allergies or food intolerances.
According to an official statement released on Friday and cited by TVC News, the action followed a recall notice issued by the French food safety authority Rappel Conso concerning the affected Indomie product.
The statement, titled Public Alert No. 041 of 2025, announced the recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles due to the presence of allergens that were not declared on the product label.
NAFDAC noted that Indomie noodles have become a household staple in many countries because of their convenience, affordability, versatility, and comfort, making the safety of such products especially critical to public health.
While the agency stated that the risk of the recalled product entering Nigeria is low, due to the Federal Government’s existing ban on noodle importation, it stressed the importance of heightened vigilance to prevent any possible illegal entry or circulation of the affected product.
NAFDAC confirmed that it has commenced monitoring and surveillance activities across the country to guard against the product entering the Nigerian market, adding that access through online purchases or international travel cannot be completely ruled out.
The agency directed all NAFDAC zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance efforts and immediately remove the product if found in any state or zone.
Distributors, retailers, and consumers were also urged to remain vigilant throughout the supply chain to prevent the distribution, sale, or consumption of the recalled foreign Indomie noodles.
NAFDAC advised consumers who may already have the product to discard it immediately and not consume it. Members of the public were encouraged to report any suspected sale of the affected product to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the NAFDAC helpline 0800 162 3322.
The agency further urged the public to report any adverse reactions or side effects linked to the consumption of the product through the nearest NAFDAC office or via the electronic reporting platforms available on the official NAFDAC website.
