The Federal Government has announced the reopening of the 47 unity schools that were earlier shut down due to security concerns, following the strengthening of security architecture within and around the affected institutions.
The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education, which confirmed that academic activities have fully resumed across the schools. According to the ministry, students have returned safely to their campuses, with many currently concluding their December academic programmes, while others have already completed their examinations.
The statement, signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding students and ensuring the continuity of education nationwide. It assured parents, guardians, and the general public that the safety, welfare, and well-being of students remain a top priority.
The ministry explained that the Federal Government continues to collaborate closely with relevant security agencies to sustain stability and restore normalcy within school environments across the country. It emphasized that the administration remains resolute in its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and uphold their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure setting.
Highlighting the importance of education to national development, the ministry noted that the administration places strong emphasis on human capital development and recognizes education as a critical pillar for growth. It stressed its determination to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar despite prevailing challenges.
The safe return of students and the successful conduct of examinations in several unity colleges, the statement added, underscore the government’s resolve to keep learning on track nationwide.
