Chaos erupted in Nalasopara, Mumbai, on Saturday after a drug raid took a violent turn, leaving four police officers and a civilian witness injured. The incident occurred when a team from the Tulinj Police Station, acting on a tip-off, raided the residence of Nigerian national Onyejesi Obum Kingley at Tara Basera Apartments, Pragati Nagar, Nalasopara East.
According to police reports, as the team entered the fourth-floor flat, the accused allegedly resisted arrest and attacked the raiding officers. During the confrontation, the civilian witness accompanying the team was reportedly pinned down and beaten, with Kingley allegedly standing on his hand and continuing to assault him.
The four police personnel sustained minor injuries and were treated with first aid. Despite the violent encounter, no drugs were recovered from the premises. However, Kingley was arrested for assaulting public servants and produced before a court on Sunday, which remanded him to police custody.
Authorities have charged the suspect under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
Section 132 – Assault on a public servant Section 117(2) – Causing grievous hurt Section 121(1) – Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty Section 115(2) – Causing hurt Section 352 – Provoking breach of peace Section 351(2) – Criminal intimidation Section 131 – Assault or use of criminal force
Confirming the development, a senior officer from Tulinj Police stated,
“No drugs were recovered, but our panch witness and four police staff were assaulted during the operation.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as police continue to determine whether the raid was linked to a larger narcotics network in the area.
