Joseph Aloba Demands Criminal Charges Against Those Linked to Mohbad’s Death

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called on the Lagos State Government to initiate criminal proceedings against individuals indicted in the coroner’s inquest into his son’s death.

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, after receiving an injection from auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe. Although he was buried the following day, widespread public outrage and persistent demands for justice prompted the exhumation of his body on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.

In a letter dated October 3, 2025, and addressed to the Lagos State Attorney General through his legal team, Aloba demanded that charges be filed within 14 days against those found culpable in the inquest.

The letter specifically cited:

Miss Feyisayo Ogedengbe, indicted for unlawful medical practice and gross medical negligence. Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba (the singer’s widow), indicted for negligence. Mr. Ibrahim Owodunni (a.k.a. Prime Boy) and others allegedly involved in inviting the auxiliary nurse or failing to take Mohbad promptly to a recognised medical facility.

Aloba expressed concern that despite the coroner’s verdict delivered on July 11, 2025, nearly three months had passed without any prosecutorial action.

“Our client, as a bereaved father, is deeply concerned that notwithstanding the clear indictments contained in the Coroner’s Verdict, no prosecutorial steps have been taken. These judicial observations warrant prosecution in order to give full effect to the findings and ensure that justice is adequately served,” the letter stated.

The bereaved father urged the Attorney General to exercise prosecutorial powers within 14 days or, alternatively, grant him and his lawyers a fiat to prosecute the case on behalf of the state.

The matter continues to draw national attention, having previously implicated music executive Naira Marley and socialite Sam Larry, who were arrested in October 2023 but later released on bail. In February 2025, a magistrate court cleared both men of any involvement in the singer’s death.
