Court Bars Baba Mohbad, Yomi Fabiyi, Others From Commenting on Omowunmi and Son Liam

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has issued a restraining order against five individuals — Baba Mohbad, Bukky Jesse, Yomi Fabiyi, Larry Omodia, and Adewale Mariam — barring them from making any public comments or inciting actions concerning late singer Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, and their son, Liam.

The court’s directive, which spans a period of one year, prohibits these individuals from issuing statements, engaging in online discussions, or inciting the public against Omowunmi and her child. It also forbids any form of bullying, harassment, or threats directed at the mother and son.

This decision comes in response to ongoing disputes and heated controversies within Mohbad’s family since his passing. The judge stressed that the order is aimed at protecting the privacy, dignity, and emotional well-being of Omowunmi and Liam while curbing further public harassment.

The court noted that constant online debates and public commentary risk exposing the family to more emotional trauma. By restraining outspoken individuals on the matter, the ruling seeks to reduce misinformation, maintain public order, and shield the family from defamatory narratives.

Reactions to the judgment have been divided across social media. Many supporters see the restraining order as a necessary step to safeguard Mohbad’s widow and child from harassment, while critics argue it could set a troubling precedent for restricting free speech in Nigeria.

Going forward, Omowunmi and Liam remain legally protected from negative public statements by the listed individuals until late 2026. Any breach of the order could result in contempt charges or other penalties.

This case underscores how Nigerian courts are increasingly tackling issues of online harassment, bullying, and defamation, especially in high-profile cases that capture nationwide attention.
