The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members across the country to embark on a nationwide strike following the federal government’s failure to pay June 2025 salaries.
The union said the action is in line with its “No Pay, No Work” policy. ASUU branches at the University of Jos and the University of Abuja have already complied with the directive, suspending academic activities.
ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, confirmed the development on Monday in Abuja, stating that the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) had earlier resolved that members should withdraw their services if salaries are delayed for more than three days.
Prof. Piwuna criticised government officials for their indifference to the plight of university lecturers, who he said are already grappling with poor remuneration
