Members of the Federal Executive Council, or FEC, are not permitted to buy cars that run on petrol, according to President Bola Tinubu. Additionally, the President has mandated that all government ministries, departments, and organisations purchase vehicles that run on compressed natural gas. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, stated in a statement on Monday that Tinubu’s pledge to guarantee energy security, promote utilities, and lower exorbitant fuel expenses was consistent with the order.
As to the statement, CNG-equipped vehicles are considered to emit fewer pollutants and offer a more cost-effective option for Nigerian energy consumers. Therefore, the President’s decree is a step towards the country’s goal of shifting to cleaner energy. Speaking to members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu declared that the energy reforms he had started would not be reversed.
“If we keep dancing in the same place, this country will not advance. We have the determination to see the widespread adoption of CNG, and as public servants, we have a responsibility to lead by example towards the prosperous future we want for our citizens. Nigerians would follow our example when they realise we mean business, the President said.
The statement went on, “The President further ordered the rejection of all memos brought by FEC members seeking the purchase of conventional gasoline-dependent vehicles, assigning the impacted council members the task of returning and assiduously seeking value-driven procurements of CNG-compliant vehicles that meet regulations.”
“The President is steadfast in his commitment to efficiently utilising the country’s gas resources, relieving the masses of the financial burden associated with expensive transportation, and raising the standard of living for every Nigerian.”
