FRSC Blames Speed and Wrongful Overtaking in Accident Involving Anthony Joshua on Lagos Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has released preliminary findings on the motor accident involving boxing star Anthony Joshua on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway attributing the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.

The incident occurred on Monday around 12 noon near the Sinoma area along the Sagamu axis of the road when a Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua crashed into a stationary truck. Two people lost their lives in the accident while Joshua survived with minor injuries.

In a statement the FRSC disclosed that the vehicle was travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit on the corridor and lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre leading to the fatal crash.

According to the corps excessive speed and wrongful overtaking are serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.

The FRSC confirmed that the bodies of the two deceased victims have been conveyed to Livewell Morgue Ajaka Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division has also been notified and further investigations are expected to be carried out to fully establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps Shehu Mohammed on behalf of the management and staff extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery.

The crash happened just nine days after Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in an exhibition heavyweight bout at the Kaseya Centre in Miami. The boxer has been spending his yuletide holiday in Nigeria since the fight.
