President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, the reconstituted board is chaired by Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, who was first appointed as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman of the Commission. His appointment as Chairman took effect from December 1, 2025, and will run until the completion of his ten-year statutory tenure in line with the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr. Yusuf Ali was appointed Vice Chairman of the Commission. He was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, and his designation as Vice Chairman also took effect from December 1, 2025. He will serve in that capacity until the completion of his first term.
Other members of the board include Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, who is serving a second term as Commissioner after his initial appointment in January 2017, and Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, also on a second term, having been first appointed in January 2017. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello is likewise serving a second term, following her initial appointment in December 2020.
Dr. Chidi Ike continues his service as a Commissioner, currently in his first term after being appointed in February 2022. Dr. Fouad Animashaun joins the board as a Commissioner for his first term, effective December 2025. He is an energy economist with extensive experience in Nigeria’s power sector and previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has tasked the newly constituted board with deepening and consolidating the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the provisions and objectives of the Electricity Act, 2023.
