False Alarm in Sokoto: Officials Debunk Viral Mosque Attack Rumour

Authorities in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State have dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that armed men attacked a mosque in the area and killed an Imam alongside several worshippers.

The Chairman of the council, Ayuba Hashimu, described the reports as entirely false.

“I don’t know of any mosque that was attacked, let alone the killing of an Imam or worshippers. The report is simply untrue,” he said via telephone.

A member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing the area, Hon. Aminu Boza, also refuted the claims.

“No mosque was attacked on Saturday. I have no idea where that story came from, but it is not correct,” he stated.

Meanwhile, other security-related incidents have been reported in the state. The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria recently raised concerns over the alleged kidnapping of six directors of the Ministry of Defence while travelling from Lagos to Abuja for a promotion examination.

In a separate incident, suspected bandits reportedly attacked Alkalije village in Yabo Local Government Area, killing five people, including a pregnant woman. Alkalije, a border community under Kilgori District, lies close to Silame Local Government Area and shares boundaries with parts of Kebbi State an area frequently targeted by Lakurawa bandit groups.
