Bandits Strike Katsina Village, Kill Pregnant Woman and Three Others Despite ‘Peace Pact’

Bandits have attacked Gidan Dan Yaya community in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing four people including a pregnant woman, injuring one, and abducting at least 10 residents.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, left the community in mourning as homes were raided and residents taken. Reports indicate that Kankara LGA had recently signed a peace pact with bandit groups, raising fresh doubts about the effectiveness of such agreements.

A source and X user, @DanKatsina50, shared the incident online, noting that the violence came shortly after peace talks aimed at curbing attacks in the region.

In a related development, bandits also invaded Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting five women, including four nursing mothers.

Observers warn that peace deals with bandits in Katsina may be pushing criminal groups into neighbouring states, calling for urgent coordination between Katsina and Kano governments to prevent further spillover violence.
