Nigeria’s DISCOs Record ₦193.96 Billion Revenue in July 2025 Despite Worsening Power Supply

Nigeria’s electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) reported a 16.5% year-on-year increase in revenue, reaching ₦193.96 billion in July 2025, up from ₦162 billion recorded in the same period of 2024.

This growth comes despite widespread complaints from consumers — including households and businesses — over persistent poor power supply. Many have attributed the situation to the inefficiency of the DISCOs and the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) inability to effectively transmit the country’s 16,384 MW installed generation capacity from the Generation Companies (GENCOs).

According to the latest report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) obtained by Vanguard, total revenue collected by the DISCOs stood at ₦193.96 billion, even as the government continues to subsidize power supply across the country.

The report further disclosed that the total value of energy received during the period was ₦300.04 billion, while energy billed amounted to ₦243.14 billion, with an average collection per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of ₦89.30.

It added that this translated to 81.04% billing efficiency, 79.77% collection efficiency, and 76.82% recovery efficiency, respectively.
