Court Remands Nnamdi Kanu’s Brother and Lawyer in Kuje Prison

A Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has ordered the remand of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and his lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, in Kuje Correctional Centre.

The decision followed their alleged involvement in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held on Monday in Abuja.

Confirming the development, Kanunta Kanu wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“The magistrate sitting in Kuje remanded Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his youngest brother. This is a conspiracy from the executive, legislature, and judiciary to frustrate Kanu’s trial on Thursday.”

According to reports, the Nigeria Police arraigned Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and 10 others over their participation in the protest. They were charged with inciting disturbance and breach of public peace in violation of a court order.

Court documents shared by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, former Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Nigeria (HRCN), revealed that the suspects were accused of disrupting traffic flow, denying citizens freedom of movement, and chanting war songs while demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who spoke earlier on Channels Television’s Politics Today, confirmed that those arrested during the protest would be charged after investigations were concluded.
